KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Nov. 04, 2022 – On October 28th, 2022, the awardees of IISMA (Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards) in Universiti Malaya execute their event in remembrance of the National Heroes Day on the 10th day of November with the theme “Gatot Kaca: Getting You Introduced and Connected to Indonesia’s Chevaliers.” Gatot Kaca is a figure in the epic Mahabharata known to be powerful, nicknamed “wire muscle, iron bone”, known to be able to fly without wings. The theme itself is chosen by the awardee to represent Indonesia’s persistence in facing the changes throughout the years.

Participated by many guests, the event includes Dr. Eng. Ir. R. Rachmat A. Sriwijaya, S.T., M.T., D.Eng., IPM., ASEAN Eng., Arida Susyetina, Dianti Resti Risanti, Tamat Santoso, Firda, and Tedy S. This event is one of the series of challenges given by IISMA to the awardees to promote Indonesia’s culture into the international community and it also aims to introduce them in a more practical way how Indonesian people still adhere to the existing culture to date through practical things in everyday life.

Mr. Rachmat stated that "I would like to thank all the IISMA Awardees because you are not only studying science, culture and others but also contributing to promote Indonesia. Especially about culture at the University of Malaya'' after being asked to comment about the event.

With the help of Mr. Hidayat, this event ran smoothly entertaining the international guests with booths that the awardees had prepared. These booths include Indonesia’s traditional food for the guests to taste, HEROES booths that explain the history of Indonesia and its heroes through the rupiah currency, traditional dance booth for the guests who are interested in learning the traditional dance of Indonesia, game booth filled with traditional games, lastly is the photo booth where guests can try out Batik and take pictures.

By holding this event, awardees of IISMA Universiti Malaya hoped that other international and local communities would know more about the diversity of Indonesia, not only from its trademark, but also from foods, cultural heritage, traditional dances, and many other elements.

All 20 awardees that have worked together succeeded in charming roughly 100+ guests creating an event full of laughter, but we certainly realize that this event alone is not enough to promote Indonesia's cultural richness in the eyes of the world. Awardees of IISMA Universiti Malaya are looking forward to more challenges in order to promote Indonesia in the future.
